A BRIEF HISTORY OF ITS MERGED ORGANIZATIONS:

INDIAN VALLEY HOUSING CORPORATION AND

IVOC (INDIAN VALLEY OPPORTUNITY CENTER)

 

 

Vision:

The purpose of Keystone Opportunity is: to provide help for community members in need by offering a comprehensive array of social services that educate, encourage and empower them to become self-sufficient. 

 

A History of Providing Help and Offering Hope

  • 1970- Indian Valley Opportunity Council (IVOC) founded with objective: to support the poor and minority persons in the community 
  • 1980's- IVOC mission expanded to include basic needs such as food and community case management
  • 1987- IVOC offers day and evening English as a Second Language classes in Lansdale and Souderton
  • 1990- Indian Valley Housing Corporation was formed to provide affordable housing and extensive support services to families and individuals in crisis. Opened the first two private transitional housing units in Montgomery County.
  • 1998- Inter-Faith Hospitality Network (IHN) begins work in Indian Valley area
  • 1998- IVOC initiates Summer English as a Second Language Camp for elementary students in North Penn and Souderton Area school districts
  • 2000- Indian Valley Inter-Faith Hospitality Network a becomes a program of Indian Valley Housing
  • 2002- IVOC expanded office facilities at 104 Main St in Souderton includes food pantry and clothing exchange
  • 2005-2007 IVOC offers expanded educational opportunites including job search skills and advanced English and elective courses
  • 2004-2006 Indian Valley Housing transitional housing program expands to include a total of 18 units in Montgomery and Bucks counties
  • 2006- Indian Valley Housing adds financial education to array of services
  • 2007- Indian Valley Housing certified through the "Standards of Excellence"  program of the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations
  • January 1, 2009- Merger of Indian Valley Opportunity Center into Indian Valley Housing Corporation completed to establish Keystone Opportunity Center-the premier private social services organization in Montgomery and Bucks Counties
