BOY SCOUTS LAUNCH
“SCOUTING FOR FOOD” DRIVE

Local boy scout troops are launching their annual “Scouting for Food” Drive to help area food pantries restock shelves and serve the needs of the community. The Keystone Opportunity Center  food pantry will benefit from donations collected in the Souderton/Telford for the one-day drive on November 29, 2011.

Troops in the area will be dropping off collection bags at local residents’ homes on Saturday, November 11 and then return to collect the bags filled with donations the morning of Saturday, November 19. According to Keystone Opportunity Center Food Pantry Coordinator, Cindy Dembrosky, the annual event usually yields approximately 4,000 lbs. of food for the Souderton-based food pantry.

Dembrosky said the drive is a crucial one this year as food demands have risen and county supplies have been cut dramatically. “We are seeing an increase in the number of households seeking our help. While community donations have been meeting those needs, the cupboards are looking pretty bare right now.” She added, “We have a very generous community and we hope they can help the scouts meet their goal and increase the food pantry’s supplies.”

Dembrosky explained that community members who do not receive a scout donation bag may contribute to the Novermber 19 food drive by dropping off donations at the Keystone Food Pantry warehouse between 11:00a.m. and 4:00p.m. at 142 Main Street, Souderton. Items most needed at this time include: soups, canned meats like tuna and chicken, peanut butter, coffee, tea bags, tomato sauce, jello/pudding mixes, sugar, salt, cereal.

Troops involved in the food drive are part of the General Nash District, which includes Boy Scout troops and cub packs in the North Penn and Souderton Area school districts.
